Dining etiquette: how a Chinese meal works
✅ Updated May 2026
Meals are shared — dishes go in the center and everyone takes from them, often using serving chopsticks or a turning lazy Susan. The host orders and will urge you to eat more as a sign of care. Let elders and the host sit and start first; the seat facing the door is the place of honor. Try a little of everything offered, and expect a lively, talkative table. Slurping noodles is fine, not rude.
