Is tap water safe to drink in China?

Do not drink tap water straight from the tap — boil it first or drink bottled or filtered water. Locals boil water and drink it hot, and most offices, hotels, and trains provide hot-water dispensers. Bottled water is cheap and everywhere. Tap water is fine for brushing teeth and rinsing food in most cities.
