Visas & Immigration
Extending or renewing your visa
✅ Updated May 2026
Tourist (L) and many other visas can often be extended once for a similar length if you apply before they expire, at the local Exit-Entry Administration Bureau. Apply several days early and never overstay — even one day brings fines and can hurt future entries. Typical documents are your passport, a completed form, a passport photo, proof of accommodation (a hotel slip or police registration), and sometimes proof of funds or onward travel. Processing usually takes about a week, during which your passport may be held.
